Think of “crunkcore” as bad hip-hop with screaming vocals. And thank BrokeNCYDE for being one of the founding bands of the genre. In 2009, the band (three vocalists and a programmer) released its full-length debut, I’m Not a Fan, But the Kids Like It! The album title should serve as a warning, since anyone who’s moved beyond freshman year of high school finds the album’s hit song “Freaxxx” more embarrassing than the video produced for it. Give BrokeNCYDE credit, though, for releasing two more full-lengths since then; their current tour in advance of the forthcoming Best of BC13 makes us wonder what they really consider their best.
