Bob Mould Band/Little Bighorn

These days, Bob Mould, the former frontman in noisemaking oufits Husker Du and Sugar, throws down rock ‘n’ roll with his own band. Since 1996 (and prior, really), he’s cultivated a sound that builds off his major alternative acts from the past. Take Live at ATP for a nighttime drive, and you’ll pick up on Mould’s punk origins real quick. Songs like “A Good Idea” translate well to the stage, promising good omens for tonight’s show. For a better sense of where Mould is playing now, last year’s Silver Age offers a stripped-down collection of melodies and nostalgic nods to rock glories of yesteryear. The album’s title track is a tinged nicely with Mould’s characteristic drone and his band’s relentlessly giddy uptempo rock. New material like that will be a welcome treat during his rare appearance in Cleveland, but keep an open ear tonight for Hüsker Dü and Sugar tunes, too. Little Bighorn opens the evening’s gig.
