Bewitching Imagery

The latest exhibition at the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Novel and the Bizzare: Salvator Rosa’s Scenes of Witchcraft, is a group of four paintings that were created in Florence at the Medici court, and reflects both Florentine traditions and a more contemporary interest in witchcraft. A collection of 16th- and 17th-century prints and drawings of occult imagery, as well as other examples of Rosa’s work from the museum’s permanent collection, will offer visual and conceptual context.
