Amir ElSaffar’s Rivers of Sound

Amir ElSaffar’s Rivers of Sound incorporates elements of Middle Eastern maqam modal music with jazz and other contemporary musical practices to create “a unique microtonal musical environment that moves beyond the notions of style and tradition into a realm of uninhibited musical communication.” The ensemble features musicians from all over the world and a broad spectrum of traditions, from maqam to American jazz. Tonight’s concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Tickets are $33 to $45, $30 to $40 for CMA members. (Niesel)
