Alluring Artwork

From 5:30 to 8 p.m. today, the Sculpture Center hosts an opening reception for its latest exhibitions. At 6:15 p.m., John Douglas Powers will discuss his exhibition, Revenant, as part of the Sculpture Center’s ongoing 2015 W2S series in the Euclid Avenue Gallery. Powers is interested in the allure of the unattainable and its connection to the passage of time. Revenant references his upbringing in rural Indiana, as well as the agrarian machines used to manipulate and cultivate the landscape. Derek Cote will discuss his Terra Nullius (No Man’s Land) exhibition in the Main Gallery at 7 p.m., which is a response to his ongoing participation in geographic explorations in Alaska, the Arctic Circle and Iceland. The installation includes mixed media objects, projected video loops, sound, kinetic elements and photographs. The exhibitions and reception are free. (Josh Usmani)
