AFI/Touche Amore

After being away from the music scene for a brief period, AFI have returned. The gothic punk rock band is touring in advance of its newest album Burials, which will be released next month. Two new singles — “17 Crimes” and “I Hope You Suffer” —show no signs of switching it up. Lead singer Davey Havok continues to deliver dark, brooding lyrics, and guitarist Jade Puget creates punk-rock riffs to complete the sound. They have, however, added some pop polish reminiscent of 2003’s Sing of Sorrow. The difference, though, is that Havok and Puget have opted for a richly layered sound that suggests a certain maturity.
