A Place to Bury Strangers/Bleeding Rainbow/Glass Cities

It’s easy to assume that the violent-sounding A Place to Bury Strangers is just some crappy post-hardcore band that’ll break up once a member graduates high school and goes to college. But in fact, A Place to Bury Strangers isn’t balls-to-the-wall metalcore (or whatever the hell the loudest form of metal is these days); they’re a noise rock band that made its mark after its 2007 self-titled debut won praise from Pitchfork Media. Now, they’ve just released their third album, Worship, and it sure is noisy. The album has a ’80s feel, with heavy reverb on the vocals and guitars that resonate with heavy feedback. That makes for a painful listen, especially with in-ear headphones. But on the other hand, if you happen to travel 30 years back in time and end up in a high-speed car chase, this is a good album for that scenario. (Sam Mendez)
