Weekend

Anyone who's had to sit in traffic during rush hour knows there's nothing more excruciating than the slow, imperceptible crawl of a line of cars to someplace that suddenly seems like a thousand miles away. Jean-Luc Godard's 1967 apocalyptic parable throws a bickering couple into the middle of an endless traffic jam and lets the fun begin with accidents, murder, and even a revolution. It's all a metaphor for society's crumbling values and a dismaying look at hell on earth. Movie-nerd note: The Cinematheque is showing a new 35mm print at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 8:20 p.m. Sunday.
