Synonymous in some circles with IFC’s Portlandia (via the main hook in “Feel It All Around”), Washed Out has come to stand atop the contemporary mountain we all call “chillwave.” (Great Lakes Brewing Co. now even has a beer called Chillwave.) But Washed Out’s Ernest Greene is more interested in evocations than static ties to pop culture. 2009’s Life of Leisure remains a killer little album, but his latest outing, Paracosm builds deftly on his budding canon. “It All Feels Right,” the first single to come from that album, has this great summertime vibe to it. At various points, tucked in and among the synth beats, you can even hear, like, bees buzzing around the sinuous rills of some sweet, lush garden. The album art helps bring out those sensory images too. Cue it up; this is perfect music for June. (Sandy)
