UBU ROI (Matinee Dates)

The Cleveland State University 2015-2016 Department of Theatre & Dance season opens with Alfred Jarry’s "UBU ROI." Directed by Dr. Michael Mauldin, it is set for Nov. 5-15 in The Helen Rosenfeld Lewis Bialosky Lab Theatre. One of the most excessive political caricatures, "Ubu Roi" ranks among the most original and powerful burlesques of all time and deals with the cruelty of despots and the stupidity of the human condition. The character Ubu Roi is actually based on a schoolteacher who taught Jarry, a French symbolist writer.
