Taking the concept of cryptophasia (“twinspeak”) into the musical realm, this Chicago trio has really developed a musical language of their own. Drums, sax, bass and Katie Ernst’s delicate vocals: It’s a simple recipe, but the result is very entrancing. They just dropped a self-titled album that demonstrates a knack for keen songwriting, while always leaving the door open to improvisation. “Hush, Hush” is a certain highlight, with its pull-you-in bass line and the sudden arrival of Dustin Laurenzi’s sax. Tonight’s show at the Bop Stop will see the musicians showcasing all of the above and then some. (Eric Sandy)
