Tweak Bird/We Are Hex/Ultrasphinx

Caleb and Ashton Bird are the sole members of the heavy fuzz-laden stoner-rock band Tweak Bird. These two manage to infuse the humor, loving aggression and disgustingness of brotherhood into their songs. Full of ridiculously thick riffs on baritone guitar, trippy electronics and slap-happy vocals, Tweak Bird’s latest album, Any Ol’ Way, has a lackadaisical, funny tone that still rocks. “She Preach” is a moody distorted psychedelic chant that evolves into a free-jazz saxophone jam. Don’t expect long jam songs; the duo’s short attention span results in short spurts of happy freak-metal goodness. (Gonzalez)
