Truly Vulgar

Helen Memel (Carla Juri), the 18-year-old girl at the center of the German indie flick Wetlands, admits that she often mixes up reality, lies and dreams, making it hard to tell exactly what’s real and what’s imagined in the movie. Based on Charlotte Roche’s best-selling novel, the movie takes vulgarity to an extreme as Helen comes off as someone obsessed with phallic vegetables and bodily fluids. The movie makes its Cleveland debut at 9:45 tonight at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. It shows again at 8:45 p.m. tomorrow. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)
