Tremont Greek Fest Returns

Tremont’s popular celebration of all things Greek returns this weekend for its 42nd year. Besides the usual dolmathes, dancing, and drinking, this year’s fest pays tribute to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Now in its 100th year, the church is one of the city’s oldest, filled with breathtaking iconography and architectural detail. Organizers are marking the occasion with a series of guided tours happening at 3, 5, and 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday, and at 3 and 5 p.m. on Memorial Day. As for the fun stuff, that happens in the church parking lot beneath a series of all-weather tents. That’s where you find three bands, five Greek dance troupes, a beer garden, and various boutiques selling Hellenic art, jewelry, and clothing. As for the food, where to begin? Pastitsio, moussaka, or souvlaki? Spanakopita, baklava, or loukoumathes? If it’s all Greek to you, just dig in: Eating is the best way to travel. Also please note that admission is free, parking is free, and you can pay with stuff with plastic until your credit limit is maxed out. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday and 11 to 7 on Monday; food service starts at noon. If you need to know more, check out the website.
