Toukii

The dance performance Toukii: The Journey celebrates a "decade long journey of culture, empowerment, struggle and triumph" and gives viewers "a delectable taste of Africa and the African Diaspora with histrionic travels through Senegal, Mali, Ghana, Guinea, Cuba and the United States highlighting Djapo's dynamic dance company, area performers and international artists from each region." Choreographed by artistic director Talise Campbell and featuring the musical direction of Grammy-nominated percussionist Weedie Braimah, the production includes folkloric dance, drumming, and song and poetry. The performance begins at 7:30 tonight at the Ohio Theatre. Tickets start at $25. (Niesel)
