After the Silent Comedy put out 2010’s Common Faults — an album that won “Best Pop” honors at the San Diego Music Awards — this rock quartet began a love affair with the History Channel as three of the album’s tracks, including “Bartholomew” and “All Saints Day,” were used in ads for the network’s various miniseries. Whether or not the same will be said for the band’s newest album, this year’s Friend’s Divide, remains to be seen, but some songs on the album sound destined to a similar fate. It’s not hard to imagine the screaming guitars of “Always Two” over images of grizzled-looking Civil War re-enactment vets, or the gentle acoustic melodies of “Ghosts” playing over a touching montage of the best moments from the latest season of “Swamp People.” If any History Channel execs are reading this, feel free to thank us later.
