The Sheepdogs/the Buffalo Killers

Much like Cincinnati’s Buffalo Killers, the Sheepdogs are a band that looks back fondly to the classic rock past. The Canadian group is most notorious as the act that won Rolling Stone magazine’s “Choose the Cover” contest, and as a result will go down in rock history as the first unsigned band to appear on the rag’s cover. Not that they stayed unsigned for long after that. They’ve just inked a deal with Atlantic and have recruited Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney to handle production duties. While all that might make it sound like these guys are amateurs, that’s most certainly not the case. They’ve been self-releasing albums since 2006 and sound as seasoned as fellow Canucks The Band. The aforementioned Buffalo Killers open the show, making this a killer double bill. (Niesel)
