The Mary Rose - Exploring the Parallel Lives of a Flagship and Her King

Although most famous for his many wives and for breaking England away from the Catholic church, Henry VIII played a vital role in his nation’s economic and military future as well, not least of which as the de facto father of her navy. In this program, we trace the trajectory of his reign through the history of his flagship the Mary Rose. We explore the music of the royalty as well as the lower classes working on the ship, travel with her to foreign lands, and follow her to her ultimate fate at the bottom of the English Channel.
