The Gallery/Sputnik/The Singular/Maid Myriad

The Gallery plays the kind of roots rock that seems to come back in style every few years. The songs on its new album, Restless, recall '90s bands such as Barenaked Ladies. Spin Doctors and the Wallflowers. Album opener "Young and Restless" is a catchy call-and-response tune about how we need to "keep on keep on keeping on." Elsewhere, "Restless Soul" invokes Tom Petty and "the Fever," a song about unrequited love, simmers with tension. Be sure to arrive early to catch Sputnik, a local indie rock trio that's just issued Rising, a fine collection of jangly tunes that recall early R.E.M. (Jeff Niesel)
