Fronted by husband-and-wife songwriters Jace Lacek and Olga Goreas, Quebecois indie quartet The Besnard Lakes continue their dedication to immaculately crafted, sweeping songcraft on their latest release Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO, which is about 100% more warm and approachable than the album title suggests. With shoe gazer symphonics and lovely gossamer melodies, the band’s fourth album brims with engrossing, nuanced compositions that indeed recall swooning transmissions from some majestic UFO, its orbit marked by tasteful prog excursions and densely orchestrated mothership hymns. Openers Suuns meld queasy kraut experimentalism with angular post-punk guitar rock. (Hannah Franklin)
