Thalia Zedek Band/Banging Fragiles/Brian Straw/Chin Shoda

The past year has been a busy one for singer Thalia Zedek, and she’s only gearing up for more. After releasing the solo album Via and then reuniting with the indie rock act Come and reissuing Eleven:Eleven, she sat down and made SIX with her band this past October. Via has a layered quality but is dotted with accents of piano and lined with a husky viola. One song, “Want you to know,” even features a psychedelic-sounding guitar solo. On it, she takes her brooding, dreamy alternagirl style and pares it down in tracks like “Julie Says” and “Afloat,” letting her voice take over in spaces guitar would normally fill. Both these releases focus on themes of recovery, loyalty and gratitude, reflecting a broader snapshot of Zedek’s life as a recovering addict and an artist who has come back into her own.
