Symphonic Harmony

German composer Paul Hindemith originally conceived Symphonic Metamorphosis as a ballet. But when he got wind that surrealist painter Salvador Dali would be designing the costumes and sets, he withdrew from the project because of his hatred for Dali’s art. And yet, he still finished writing the music. Tonight at 7:30 at Severance Hall, the Cleveland Orchestra will perform the piece along with two Beethoven symphonies. Marek Janowski will conduct. The program repeats at 7 p.m. tomorrow (minus one of the Beethoven works) and at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets start at $29. (Niesel)
