When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through March 17 2012
The Cinematheque kicks off its Features of Jan Svankmajer series with the Czech director's latest movie, which is billed as a psychoanalytical comedy. But don't read too much into that. Like so much of his work since the '60s – when he was making surreal shorts – Surviving Life (Theory and Practice) doesn't take itself too seriously. Mixing animation and live-action, Svankmajer uses paper cutouts, among other things, to tell the story of a married guy who has a torrid affair with a much younger woman in his dreams. Watch out for the spraying confetti! At 7:20 p.m. Friday and 9:45 p.m. Saturday.
