Something Smells

For those of you who are psyched for John Waters’ Hairspray at the Capitol Theatre on Monday, consider tonight’s screening of Polyester at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque a “scentsational” prelude. In this early ’80s classic, a Baltimore housewife’s world falls apart when she learns the dysfunctional truth about her family: Her husband’s a pornographer; her son’s a serial foot-breaking fetishist; her daughter’s preggo. The screening comes with a unique twist. All attendees, upon admittance, will be given a free scratch-and-sniff card. The Cinematheque is billing tonight’s screening as the first ever “in Odorama”! Tickets are $9 for tonight’s screening at 8:50 and tomorrow night’s showing at 6:30. (Sam Allard)
