Sister Carol

Since her appearance in Jonathan Demme’s 1986 movie Something Wild (she does a reggae rendition of “Wild Thing” while the film’s credits roll), Sister Carol has been one of reggae’s rare female stars. The singer, who moved from Jamaica to Brooklyn, New York, when she was 14, hasn’t put out studio albums with any regularity, and never quite broke through to the mainstream, even when reggae went pop in the late ’80s and early ’90s. But she’s persevered and recently celebrated 30 years of touring and recording with a special anniversary tour that concluded last year. Her new album, Togetherness, is a straightup roots reggae affair that features collaborations with Bunny Wailer, Judy Mowatt, and Buju Banton. She’ll be performing tonight at 8:30 at the Grog Shop. Tickets are $12 advance and $15 the day of the show.
