Schubert's Great C-major Symphony

A fan and friend of Beethoven’s, classical composer Franz Schubert served as one of the pallbearers at the guy’s funeral. He even wrote his C-major Symphony, nicknamed “The Great,” as a tribute to the man. Tonight at 7:30 at Severance Hall, the Cleveland Orchestra plays the piece. The program also features the world premiere performance of a brand-new concerto for two violas, written especially for the Cleveland Orchestra’s principal viola, Robert Vernon, and his colleague Lynne Ramsey. Performances also take place at 8 tomorrow night and Saturday night. Tickets start at $29. (Niesel)
