Romeo and Juliet

Back in the ’40s and ’50s, CBS used Prokofiev’s the “March” from the satirical opera The Love for Three Oranges in the radio-drama series “The FBI in Peace and War.” Alternately, Prokofiev’s Suite from Romeo and Juliet centers on “the tenderness of young love amidst violent tragedy.” The beautiful melodies contrast with the warring Montagues and Capulets. Tonight’s program by the Cleveland Orchestra also features one more work by Prokofiev. An hour before the concert, guest speaker Timothy Cutler, professor of music theory at the Cleveland Institute of Music, gives the pre-concert talk, “Taming Russia’s Naughty Boy.” The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Severance Hall, where concerts take place tomorrow and Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $29.
