Rival Sons/Teasebox

Well established by now as a band worthy of repping this decade’s contributions to rock ‘n’ roll, Rival Sons (the kid cousins of the Black Keys, sonically) dropped a new album recently that continues that narrative. While it’s a short album, the band packs a lot of heat into its close quarters. Bookended, sort of, by parts one and two of the title track, the record is a fine example of 2010s-era riff rock served with anthemic throwbacks to, e.g., Jimmy Page’s scene. Each song -- and earlier tunes -- blaze with energy that’s sure to translate to the stage. The album closes with the haunting and yearning “All That I Want,” a crestfallen message to a dispassionate lover. All of which is to say: These guys run the gamut. (Eric Sandy)
