Ride Your Bike at the Zoo

If you’ve ever wished you could glide through the zoo on two wheels, this evening’s Wild Ride should be right up your alley. For the first time ever, visitors of all ages can set out on safari from the seats of their bicycles. It all happens after closing time, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The pathways will be marked to keep traffic flowing, and special maps will identify the areas best suited for beginning, intermediate, and experienced riders. Many of the regular inhabitants will be on view (and possibly adorably cranky, since you’ll be mucking up their alone time) and there will be chances to meet the keepers and check out special exhibitors on the Welcome Plaza. Helmets and a signed release form are required. Cost is $12 per person, or $10 for zoo members. No bike? No problem. Call 216-771-7120 to rent one in advance. Tickets, release forms, and more information are on the website. And don’t worry about the weather: It’s a rain-or-shine event.
