'Pictures' Tells a Story

A suite in 10 movements that Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky composed for piano in 1874, Pictures at an Exhibition was inspired by a visit to a memorial art exhibition of watercolors and drawings by a close friend. Maurice Ravel’s 1922 transcription of Mussorgsky’s tribute became one of the best-loved works in the orchestral repertoire. Tonight at 8 at Severance Hall, the Cleveland Orchestra performs Ravel’s version of Pictures. The orchestra will perform it again tomorrow night at 8. Tickets start at $35. (Niesel)
