Paint it Black

What’s blacker than black? Jordan Tate’s new work uses a “superblack” material designed through nanotechnology to create photographs in his exhibition that opens tonight at the Transformer Station. In Superblack, Tate creates a structure that allows no light to escape, challenging the limits of our vision. Christian Patterson’s Redheaded Peckerwood also opens tonight; it’s a collection of mixed media culled from his investigation into the life of mass murderer Charles Starkweather. The artist interviewed people related to the 1958 murders and followed the path Starkweather took after the crime. Patterson has assembled a narrative with these materials to create what he calls a “concrete kind of fiction.” The opening party takes place tonight from 7 to 9. Admission is free. (Gonzalez)
