Ohio & the Civil War: 150 Years Later

The historic burg of Peninsula in the Cuyahoga Valley continues to pay its respects to the War between the States with a new traveling exhibit from the Ohio Historical Society. Starting today, the town’s circa-1850 G.A.R. Hall is host to Ohio & the Civil War: 150 Years Later, a far-reaching examination of the state’s participation in the war. Three themes — Democracy, Transformation, and Memory — are used to tell stories of the conflict that echo through today: things like civil rights, political dissent, and pacifism, among them. In addition to checking out the traveling exhibit, you can also get a peek at treasures from the Peninsula Valley Historic & Education Foundation’s own Civil War collection, including diaries and letters from local soldiers. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays through April 1. It’s free.
