Oh, Canada

Paul Schrader directs this movie based on a Russell Banks novel. It centers on a Canadian-American documentary filmmaker Leonard Fife, one of the 60,000 draft evaders who fled from the U.S. to Canada during the Vietnam War. In his late seventies and dying of cancer in Montreal, Fife agrees to a final, candid interview to reveal the secrets he’s kept hidden for decades. The movie makes its Cleveland premiere tonight at 7 at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque.
