Nightmares on Wax (DJ set)

As one of the debut artists on the now-famous Warp Records label, Nightmares On Wax pioneered the crosspollination of hip-hop and electronic music. From his earlier releases like 1991's debut, A Word Of Science: The First And Final Chapter, NoW carefully dissects hip-hop drum beats out of their native element and transposes them into experimental electronic environments. Constantly reinventing himself over the course of his 20-plus year career, he sounds sharp on his latest record, Feelin' Good, which features rich orchestration and not-overtly-hip-hop-influenced drum tracks. In general, it's a lot more intimate than any of his previous records though tracks like "Tapestry" still carry that upbeat, weird funk for which he's known. Tonight, instead of his usual band set up, he's offering up a DJ set. There's no telling where he'll go with it, but for most DJs, that usually entails sick cuts of B-sides not often heard. (Stoops)
