Mary J. Blige: Strength of a Woman Tour/Lalah Hathaway

In recent years, young pop stars like Hailee Steinfeld and Justin Bieber have taken to the airwaves with singles called “Love Myself” and “Love Yourself,” respectfully. But it makes a whole lot more sense for an artist like Mary J. Blige to tout a song titled “Love Yourself,” a track that can be found on her latest album, Strength of a Woman (also the name of her current tour). The track isn’t a thinly-veiled take on self-pleasure or telling others to get lost; here, you believe her advice that life is about learning to love yourself before anything else can come. She’s a grown-ass 46-year-old woman, after all. Ever since bursting onto the scene with 1992’s What's the 411?, Blige has grown and matured in her musicality. Yet this Queen of Hip-hop Soul remains, thankfully, as honest and as strong as ever. (Laura Morrison)
