Mansions on the Moon/Carousel/Freeze Tag/Strongheart

It’s not easy to categorize indie act Mansions on the Moon. Pharrell Williams produced the band’s 2012 EP Lightyears and the band has gone on the road to support rapper Wiz Khalifa. But the group is clearly not a hip-hop act. “Rest of Your Days,” for example, features the kind of soothing vocal harmony you’d associate with Crosby, Stills and Nash. The beautiful tune is as fragile as a Nick Drake song. And then a gleeful electronica tune like “Athens” makes it sound like the group has more in common with the celebratory style of MGMT or Phoenix. Not sure what the live show will be like, but here’s to hoping that it’s as eclectic as the music on Lightyears and its predecessor, the 2010 mix tape Paradise Falls. (Jeff Niesel)
