Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her father 40 whacks...We’ve all heard the rhyme. Now — thanks to the annual collaboration between Baldwin-Wallace College and Playhouse Square — we can bop along to the rock musical about that infamous small-town girl who presumably killed her parents in 1892 in the most ghastly of imaginable ways. (Note: She was acquitted.) First produced off Broadway in 1990, Lizzie’s grim tale was eventually expanded into a full-length, two-act musical that was nominated for three Drama Desk Awards in 2009. This weekend marks the show’s Midwest regional premier, and features a powerhouse ensemble of B-W music theatre majors. Victoria Bussert directs. It all goes down in the 14th Street Theatre on March 30, 31, and April 1. Tickets are $10 to $20 by phone, online, or at the Playhouse Square box office. And leave the kids at home, okay? You wouldn’t want them getting ideas.
