Since 2001, more than 1400 nature lovers have gone questing along the Ohio & Erie Canalway. Even if it’s not quite as epic as it sounds, the little adventures have become quite the family friendly hit. “We’ve learned that questing is a social activity,” says Arrye Rosser, a Cuyahoga Valley National Park education specialist and quest coordinator. “We see grandparents and grandchildren, couples, scouts, families, and adult hiking buddies. We’ve even had questing dogs!” For those of you unfamiliar with the process, it’s pretty simple: Download a free quest from the Canalway website, then following rhyming clues to discover a hidden box. Inside the box is a logbook: Sign it to document the fact that you you were there, and then return the box to its hiding place. More than 2 dozen quests exist along the Canalway, including ones in Brecksville, Valley View, and Akron; each one provides fun facts and a nice balance of learning and activity. If the whole process still sounds a bit murky, stop by the Hunt Farm Visitor Information Center at 2054 Bolanz Rd. in Peninsula today from 1 to 3 p.m., where a ranger will be happy to walk you through it.
