Jukebox the Ghost/Matt Pond/The Lighthouse & the Whaler
When: Sun., March 10, 8:30 p.m. 2013
The upbeat pop sensibilities of Jukebox the Ghost are full of delight. With the verve of a merry-go-round music box, songs like “Say When” do a great job of maintaining high energy throughout 2012’s Safe Travels. Ben Thornewill’s piano work in particular provides a dazzling background as the trio explores a number of thematic notions and settings. Give the album a listen for a glimpse into the band’s style. On the other side of the coin, the band is clearly able to stretch its mellowed-out legs and throw down a bellyful of ballad with tunes like “Dead.” One thing is abundantly clear: Tonight’s gig will offer a wide spectrum of live music. The show will also serve as a homecoming for local band The Lighthouse and The Whaler. They’ve been on the road for their first national tour. Welcome back! (Eric Sandy)
