Javelin/Raleigh Moncrief/Radio People/Super Fresh Robots

Though past sample-laden efforts have garnered them comparisons to a more stand-offish Passion Pit, Brooklyn-based indie electronic duo Javelin delivers a more seasoned, hook-laden performance on the just-released album Hi Beams. The first single, “Nnormal,” is anything but, layering a minimal hip-hop beat with handclapping, woozy vocals and neo-primitive chimes. “Airfield” marries MGMT synth-pop flourishes with a breezy ’70s AM pop chorus, while “L’Ocean” is a punchy, glittering sing-song gem with feel-good lyrics relentlessly cascading like waves; if “Everyone around you will be there to help you/they’ll come out to find you/to help you define you” looped incessantly doesn’t seem as magically rousing in print as it sounds in the chorus, you’ll have to take our word for it and check them out live at the Grog. It might make your day, or possibly your week. Italo-inflected Radio People (the brainchild of just one person, Clevelander Sam Goldberg) will open with trademark blissed-out space jams.
