Hush Sound/Hockey/River City Extension/Genevieve/Lucas Carpenter

Bringing together musicians with drastically different musical backgrounds always has the chance to result in an interesting blend of styles. High-school friends Greta Salpeter (trained in classical piano) and Bob Morris (a rocker) originally formed the Hush Sound, an indie pop quartet from DuPage County, Illinois, in late 2004. The band recently released two singles for an upcoming album, the first from them in six years. Their upbeat sound seems to draw from a variety of pop influences; the tight harmonies and bouncing beat of songs like “We Intertwined” carry a definite pop-rock feel, while the scaled back “You Are the Moon” — both from 2006’s Like Vines — exudes Salpeter’s prowess as both a vocalist and pianist.
