Best friends Penelope Lowenstein (guitar, vocals), Gigi Reece (drums) and Nora Cheng (guitar, vocals), both freshmen in college in New York. They do everything as a unit, from songwriting to trading vocal duties and swapping instruments to sound and visual art design. They learned to play and met through the significant network of Chicago youth arts programs, and have their own mini-rock underground, complete with zine distros. John Agnello (Kurt Vile, The Breeders, Dinosaur Jr.) recorded the band's new album, Versions of Modern Performance, at Electrical Audio. An album highlight, "World of Pots and Pans" features shoe-gazer guitars and droll vocals. The band plays at 8 tonight at the Grog Shop. Dummy opens. Tickets cost $16.
