Hamelin Plays Liszt

Liszt's First Piano Concerto "brings together bravura daring with intense lyricism and poise," and acclaimed pianist Marc-André Hamelin is the perfect person to play the piece. He'll join the Cleveland Orchestra tonight at Severance Hall as it performs the composition. The concert will also feature one of Rachmaninoff's most evocative tone poems and a symphony by Danish composer Carl Nielsen. It begins at 7:30 p.m. Rose Breckenridge, lecturer-administrator for Cleveland Orchestra Music Study Groups, will give the pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. The performance takes place again at 8 on Saturday night. Consult the orchestra website for ticket info. (Niesel)
