Due stereotypes society still clings to, women, let alone women of color, are rarely allowed to associate with any of the tropes attributed to the rap and production worlds. This imbalance falsely relates the quintessential qualities of rap and production ability with masculinity rather than skill, making it disproportionately hard for femmes in this area of the music world to get noticed. This panel, featuring 4 femme artists from both inside and outside our community, will explore how these stereotypes exist in our musical practices and how femme artists today are working to rise above and beyond.
