International reggae songstress Etana has spread the good word from Kingston for years, and it’s a real treat to have her play Cleveland tonight. (She was in both Guyana and Charlotte, N.C., just the other week!) We imagine tonight will be a more intimate and possibly acoustic-driven version of her show, which can often blossom into full-band arena-sized world music. Etana’s breakout album, I Rise, cut in 2014, remains a solid starting point for anyone interested in checking out tonight’s show. With tunes like “How Long” and “Jamaican Woman,” it becomes clear that Etana has the chops to direct a tight, brass- and keys-driven band while delivering smooth and soulful vocals. She combines the fun and the emotional elements of reggae, and it fits sublimely with summertime in Cleveland. (Eric Sandy)
