Two short discourses by Arthur Miller and Sylvia Plath comprise an pairing based on the struggle within individual consciousness: ELEGY FOR A LADY and THREE WOMEN. The latter was written by Plath in 1962, as a radio drama, but resonates with political prescience. The play consists of three intertwining
monologues that capture women’s experiences of conception, birth, loss, identity and choices in a masculine society. Miller’s ELEGY presents a waking projection of the mind or male “reverie” confronting morality and mortality though dialog with a female "persona." She represents his possibly dying younger lover and the depth of relationship. Stylistically and intellectually, the two pieces compliment each other. ELEGY FOR A LADY by Arthur Miller and THREE WOMEN by Sylvia Plath, Fri. & Sat. at 8 pm, April 13th through April 28th, May 11th through May 26th, Sunday Matinee at 3 pm, April 29th at 3 pm.
