EarthFest at the Zoo

Since 1990, hundreds of thousands of Ohioans have celebrated Earth Day at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo — making today’s EarthFest both Ohio’s largest environmental education event and the longest-running Earth Day festival in the nation. This year’s doings are focused on local and sustainable foods, meaning you’ll have a chance to connect with local farmers markets, CSAs, restaurants, and businesses tuned into the local-foods economy. Work up an appetite for the topic with a six-mile Walk for the Earth beginning at 9 a.m.; registered walkers not only burn calories, but they earn free admission to the zoo and all the EarthFest activities too. Also on the lineup: eco-minded games and crafts, fitness workshops, nutrition training, live bands, and displays on clean transportation. And when that gets old, you can always scope out the animals. EarthFest hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $12.25 for adults, $8.25 for kids, and free for children under 2. Check out the website for more information, including registration forms for the 9 a.m. walk.
