Dance Gavin Dance, the post-grunge punk band that stole the hearts of every '90s kid in their rebellious teen years, made a triumphant return this year. The rockers have released three singles leading up to their new album, Artificial Selection. “Care,” the strongest of the three, is an emotional ballad that features a rare slow tempo but continues to incorporate the kind of screamo elements that are typical for the Sacramento boys in the chorus. “Midnight Crusade” features an upbeat alternative kiss-off that brings the band right back into its comfort zone, and “Son of a Robot” includes a soft keyboard intro that’s followed by raspy vocals and skilled guitar riffs as Dance Gavin Dance aims to show the world that you don’t ever have to grow up if you don’t want to.
