Comic Christina Pazsitzky at the Improv

Los Angeles-based Christina Pazsitzky is tough to pigeonhole. The Chelsea Lately writer and standup comedian readily admits to spending her adolescence as a goth girl in the Sherman Oaks Galleria food court (“It was such a complete waste of time; I loved it!”), studying philosophy at Oxford during a year abroad (“It allows your mind to work more clearly”), and dropping out of law school after a mere five weeks (“I felt instinctively that I had to run”). Yet her standup routine is filled with jokes about jock itch, bad body image, and the significance of dietary choices. (“I don’t eat hotdogs because I run marathons. I eat hotdogs because I hate myself.”) Pazsitzky’s first comedy CD was released last November, and she taped a recent Showtime special in Amsterdam that she hopes will air this summer. But her favorite current project is Your Moms House, a weekly podcast she sends forth from her living room with husband and fellow comic Tom Segura. (“If you want to know what it’s like to be married to a comedian, give a listen.”) She’s coming to the Improv this weekend, with six shows set for Thursday through Sunday. “Each show is only 45 minutes long,” she tells us. “Any more than that, and you’re just hurting people.” Thursday’s curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Friday's and Saturday's shows are 7:30 and 10:15 p.m. Sunday's show is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17 to $20 by phone, online, or at the Improv box office.
