Cellar Door Presents: The Universe Doesn't Stand a Chance Against Joshua Jesty/The Commonwealth/So Long, Albatross/Frozen Hellsicles/Doug Ivancic

Much like The National and Radiohead, local rockers The Commonwealth put a priority on texture. "Emerald City Blues," the title track from their new album, is a stirring mix of falsetto vocals and nasty guitar riffs. There aren't too many bands in Cleveland that sound like The Commonwealth, who refer to their music as "orchestral pop rock." Andrew Kuhar's towering voice really carries the songs and translates well on stage, too. The band co-headlines this show along with singer-songwriter Joshua Jesty. Sponsored by local label Cellar Door Records, it’s a benefit for the needy, so bring a non-perishable food item and you’ll save a few bucks on admission. (Jeff Niesel)
